Subject: More notes - Playoff changes
-------------------------------------------
Thanks again to those of you that replied with
comments, suggestions, etc on the playoff changes.
After reading them all, we have come to these conclusions:
- Any changes will be implemented next season.
- We will not use week #17 of the NFL.
- We will go to a 13-game season. The divisions will
stay intact, and you will still play the other 3
teams in your division twice. You will also play 7
of the 8 other teams once. (the schedule will rotate
every year so that you miss a different out-of-division
team each year)
- Some owners wanted to stay with 4 teams in the Championship
bracket, while many liked going to 6 teams. We have come
up with a good compromise:
Championship Playoffs:
(see link to sample brackets at bottom of e-mail)
* Top 5 teams.
* 3 Division winners plus 2 Wild Card teams.
* Week 14 Playoffs:
- All 3 Division Winners have a bye.
- The two Wild Card teams play each other.
(note: the losing wild card team drops down
to the Consolation playoffs bracket)
* Week 15 Semi-Finals:
- #1 seed plays winner of the Wild Card game.
- The other two Division winners play each other.
* Week 16 Finals:
- The 2 semi final winners play each other for the Championship.
- The 2 semi final losers play each other for 3rd place.
(see link to sample brackets at bottom of e-mail)
- - - - -
Consolation Playoffs:
(see link to sample brackets at bottom of e-mail)
* Week 14 Playoffs:
- Seeds #6 & #7 have a bye.
- Seed #8 plays seed #9.
* Week 15 Semi-Finals:
- The wild card loser from the Championship bracket plays winner of
#8-#9 seed game.
- Seeds #6 & #7 play each other.
* Week 16 Finals:
- The 2 semi final winners play each other for the Consolation
bracket
Championship.
(see link to sample brackets at bottom of e-mail)
Prizes will remain the same as always:
- Prizes to the top 4 teams and to the Consolation bracket winner.

Subject: Playoff changes
-------------------------------------------
* Proposed change for the 2002 Season.
(if there is an overwhelming feedback
to implement it this season, we will)
** Let us know if you want to see this this year. (keep in mind
some teams may not have planned for a week 17, in which the
Chargers have a bye)
We studied the standings from all of our leagues from the past 2
seasons and found the following :
- Many 8-6 teams missed the Championship playoffs.
- A few 9-5 teams missed the Championship playoffs.
- A couple of 10-4 teams missed the Championship playoffs.
(of course these teams did play in the consolation playoffs, though)
* * * We want to change the playoffs to the following: * *
Championship Playoffs:
* Top 6 teams (it was the top 4)
* 3 Division winners plus 3 Wild Card teams. (it was 1 wild card)
* Week 15 Playoffs:
- Top 2 Division Winners have a bye
- #3 seed (other Division Winner) plays the #6 seed
- #4 seed plays the #5 seed.
* Week 16 Semi-Finals:
- #1 seed plays winners of #4-#5 seed winner
- #2 seed plays winners of #3-#6 seed winner
* Week 17 Finals:
- The 2 semi final winners play each other for the Championship.
- The 2 semi final losers play each other for 3rd place.
Consolation Playoffs:
* The next 4 teams by record.
* Week 15 Semi-Finals:
- Seed #7 plays Seed #10
- Seed #8 plays Seed #9
* Week 16 Finals:
- The 2 semi-final winners play for the Consolation championship.
Prizes will remain the same as always:
- Prizes to the top 4 teams and to the Consolation bracket winner.
We've never been crazy about using NFL week #17 stats, but in looking
at the NFL stats for the past 2 seasons, the major NFL stars did not
have significantly different stats from week 16 to 17.
** Let us know if you want to see this this year. (keep in mind
some teams may not have planned for a week 17, in which the
Chargers have a bye)

Subject: Scoring info
-------------------------------------------
After reviewing almost of our leagues, we came up with these
numbers that show the importance of each position for the past
4 weeks of this season.
This is for the starters only:
QB's - 23% of total
RB's - 33% of total
WR/TE's - 23% of total
K's - 6% of total
DT's - 14% of total
The above is what we feel is almost ideal. We have always
weighted the system heavier to the running game, just as
in the NFL. Teams that can't rush the ball usually don't win.

Subject: Week "2".
-------------------------------------------
The NFL has officially decided to play the originally
scheduled week 2 games on January 6-7, 2002. In doing this
the NFL has changed all references to this weekend's games
to "Week 2" (formerly Week 3) and all subsequent weeks
have been changed accordingly. The final regular season
games now scheduled for January 6-7 will be referred to as "Week 17."
(Note: we only use the first 16 weeks of the NFL schedule for
Dream Sports)
Also, The Raiders and Cowboys have rescheduled their week 6 matchup
and will now play that game in week 4. So the new "Bye" schedule
looks like this for these teams:
Week 4 - Colts have a bye.
Week 6 - Dolphins, 49ers, Seahawks, Cowboys, Raiders all have a bye.
For the NFL's official updated 2001 schedule, please see

Subject: Free Agent info.
-------------------------------------------
Good news : We now have the capability back to process the
Free Agents by "current record", instead of just by
points scored.
As most of you know, this has always been the way we have
processed Free Agents for the past 11 years.
(with the exception of last year)
We have changed the Rulebook back to reflect the following:
"The selection order for Free Agents during the season
goes in reverse order of the current year-to-date record
of each team. (tiebreaker = least points scored).
There are 2 rounds, and they are processed separately."
This has always been the fairest method, especially early
in the season, when some teams have a losing record despite
scoring a lot of points.
Date: 17 Sep 2001
Subject: Week "3" Free Agents.
-------------------------------------------
We will not be holding any Free Agent rounds this week,
for a couple of reasons:
1 - We only hold them between NFL games, which we have already
done.
2 - The Free Agents are awarded in reverse order of points scored,
so in effect the same teams that picked 1st last week, would pick
1st again.
Good luck to everyone this week, and good luck to those of you
personally affected by last week's atrocities.

First off, our prayers go out to those affected by the cowardly and
despicable acts of terror yesterday. If able to, please try to donate
time, money and/or blood to your local Red Cross or other relief agencies.
Fantasy Football is the last thing on our minds right now, but below
will be our contingency on conducting business this week (subject to change):
* Because of how our software works, the free agent deadline will
remain the same. However we may not process the free agents until Thursday or
Friday night at the latest.
* Should the NFL games be cancelled this weekend, we will follow their
lead and either extend the season by a week, or shorten the season by a
week.
* We will get to all of the pending trades sometime before this
Saturday.

Subject: Listing Back-up players
--------------------------------------------
Looking at some of the leagues, we still see some
Owners not taking advantage of our "backups" feature.
Nothing is more frustrating in Fantasy Football
than to be a good study of who's playing and who's
not, and then get tripped up on your starters.
For example:
Terrell Owens is healthy and practicing all week.
The 49ers play in the afternoon games, so lineups
are already set. Then in warm-ups he pulls a
hamstring and doesn't play. So you get zero points,
although you did your "homework" all week.
At Dream Sports, we have always used the "backup player"
system. This takes more time on our part, but we think
it is an important feature to have.
I've seen many games lost by a few points, just because an Owner
didn't list a backup player. (don't forget to list a kicker
also, you never know when an injury can occur, or if his NFL team
get's shutout)
Please remember to list your backups
this way: (example)
M Brunell
L Centers, Em Smith
J Thrash, Rod Gardner, M Hatchette
J Carney

--------------------------------------------
A few notes on picking up Free agents :
* Always remember to list a player to drop if picking up
a player puts you over the roster limit of 18. If not,
we have to drop a player for you, and that drop is final
for that week.
* If you only list one free agent choice, you may not get
that player if he is picked up ahead of you. List several
choices to be sure you get one. (similar to the
pre-draft function)
* Be careful not to drop the same player in both rounds.
Doing this will keep you from getting 2 free agents.
